Leaning In to Find Opportunity
It was observed to me recently that as companies, we have a history of “running to the pain.” The person who said this to me did not mean that we are gluttons for punishment but rather that we have always searched for the opportunities that any challenge presents – and not just those that are easy to capitalize on but rather the opportunities that others shy away from because of their complexity or execution risk. Our ability to unearth those opportunities as a team is a key way we differentiate ourselves in our respective industries and create value within our businesses.
These past several months have presented many challenges, and I couldn’t be prouder of the ways that our team members across The Johnson Group have found the courage to seek the opportunities, no matter how daunting.
In this issue, you’ll read about the remarkable work of our team members as they tackle new challenges for our business. Among many other things, OTO’s sales teams are reinventing their customer base during a time when other hotels are resigned that their customer bases have all but disappeared, ACA is using their strengths to grow their business when others are intentionally pulling back, and the JDA team is nimbly adapting development efforts to focus on where market demand and our unique capabilities coincide. All of these actions have been grounded in our Guiding Principles.
One of the defining characteristics of team members within The Johnson Group is our teams’ initiative. To act with initiative is to “passionately pursue opportunities with a sense of urgency,” constantly adapting to and embracing change within our business landscape. Let’s keep running toward the opportunities in partnership with one another – with the humility to know that things will continue to change and with the courage to continuously adapt and grow.
