The Johnson Group is excited to welcome 29 interns to our team this summer. Hailing from 14 different schools across the nation as far away as Michigan State University, Temple University, and Rochester Institute for Technology and as close as University of South Carolina-Upstate, Wofford College, and Clemson University, this group of talented students have added value to each of our teams across the companies.
In roles spanning across all aspects of our businesses, including Accounting and Finance, Real Estate and Development, Information Technology and Human Resources, and Revenue and Asset Management, these students have been getting a crash course in our companies for the summer.
When asked about some of the highlights of their work, students had a lot to say.
Jaylyn Rowley, a Michigan State University student who is interning with OTO’s Real Estate team, shared, “I knew I wanted to join OTO to learn from some of the best people in the Hospitality Real Estate space. What I didn’t know was how welcomed, empowered, and trusted I would feel. I’ve enjoyed getting to know everyone on my team, traveling with them and learning how they see a market and hotel. It has been the most rewarding experience so far in my career.”
Likewise, Kara Mason, who is a Spartanburg native and student at USC-Upstate, said her Accounting internship with Johnson Development has given her skills that she will be able to use in her future career. “I was surprised by all of the hands-on ‘real’ work I have been able to be a part of. Building relationships with different people, and gaining long-term mentors has by far been my favorite part.”
Jordan Pixley, an Accounting Intern for OTO Development, said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed learning the different processes of the property accountants and learning how each hotel uses different mapping codes for their respective accounts. Learning about the stories of the different employees and how they came to work for OTO has probably been my favorite part of the internship.”
A Clemson University student who is a leader in the Tiger Band, Jordan also interned with American Credit Acceptance in Summer 2021.
Brick Garner, a University of South Carolina student who is interning on American Credit Acceptance’s Finance team, shared his experience: “I’ve been very fortunate to get to experience the culture and overall work environment at ACA from many different angles, including the Capital Markets, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Finance Operations teams. Everyone has been so helpful throughout the internship program and sincerely wants to see each individual grow their career skillset, and to ensure their success in exceeding both individual and company goals. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to work this summer!”
In addition to their professional responsibilities, interns have also participated in community service, social, and professional development activities throughout the summer.
