Group fosters inclusion, connection and engagement

What is SPARK?

SPARK is a group dedicated to growing a culture of inclusion, connection and engagement. Its goal is to enhance the personal development of team members across The Johnson Group and get them more involved with our local communities through professional, social and service initiatives.

SPARK Community Service and Social Events

In 2018, SPARK offered team members the chance to connect with each other and give back through community service projects and social outings, including Habitat for Humanity build days, a summer kickball tournament and the SPARK holiday party.

SPARK Peer-to-Peer Conversations

On November 2, 2018, SPARK held its first Peer-to-Peer Conversation with Geordy Johnson during which he discussed the history of the companies, his thoughts on where we stand today and how he views the future of The Johnson Group. See the full video and be on the lookout for the next conversation in the coming months.

Philanthropy Update

As the headquarters of our companies, Spartanburg, S.C. has long held a special place in our history and our hearts. That’s why our legacy of community support in Spartanburg goes beyond the pride we feel about our hometown.

As part of our effort to help make Spartanburg the best place for our team members to live, work and raise their families, our companies recently joined together to form The Johnson Group Community Fund. Housed with the Spartanburg County Foundation, the fund is dedicated to enriching the lives of our team members, improving the economic health of downtown and strengthening the quality of life for all residents.

The primary focus of this new fund is to promote education, a strong arts community, healthy economic development and civic improvement.

Since its creation in December 2017, The Johnson Group Community Fund has awarded more than $500,000 in grants to more than 20 deserving nonprofits.

In addition to supporting organizations with our financial gifts, we encourage you, our team members, to get involved in causes about which you are passionate. Together, we are able to make an even greater impact on the community that we value so much.

United Way’s Overflow Thanksgiving

Spearheaded by United Way of the Piedmont, The Bridge at Green Street and Total Ministries, Overflow Thanksgiving is an annual effort to support local families by providing Thanksgiving meals. This year, JDA, OTO and ACA joined together for a little friendly competition to see who could fill the most bags with meals for families in Spartanburg. The Johnson Group filled enough bags to feed 424 families during this season of gratitude.

The Johnson Group’s contribution accounted for nearly 25 percent of the more than 1,700 bags filled by Spartanburg businesses.
