Megan Horey, born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, joined the JDA team as a summer intern while attending Duke University and began work as a real estate analyst for JDA’s self-storage team in the D.C. regional office in June 2018. We talked to Megan to get insight into the best places in D.C. Here’s what she had to say.
Where to Eat
Looking for lunchtime variety? Check out Union Market — a food hall in Northeast D.C. where you can have a “course” at various stations.
Searching for the best hotdog in town? Ben’s Chili Bowl is Megan’s mom’s favorite for a chili dog.
Ready for dinner? Check out Mission Dupont for margarita pitchers, or make a reservation at Le Diplomate for authentic Parisian café culture — it’s a favorite of Jeff Bezos!
What to Do
D.C. offers a myriad of free museums for all ages and interests. Megan’s personal highlights include seeing the reportedly cursed Hope Diamond, catching an IMAX movie at the Natural History Museum and wandering through the fascinating NASA exhibits at the Air and Space Museum.
If you’re feeling sporty, round up some friends for a Nats or Caps game (that’s D.C. lingo for the Nationals baseball
team or Capitals hockey team). Tickets are cheap and it’s always a good time.
If you’ve brought the family, make a stop at the Spy Museum, an interactive museum dedicated to espionage. Beware though — the gift shop is especially tempting!
Where to Stay
Located just two blocks from the White House, plan your stay at OTO’s Hampton Inn White House. With its central location and iconic architecture, it’s the perfect launch point for your visit to the capital city.
JDA and OTO have teams in Washington, D.C., and The Johnson Group has team members living all over the country. We’ll be featuring travel tips and insider know-how on other cities in upcoming issues.
